Our group of 14 arrived in Koper on a cruise ship, and were met by Janus, who was waiting for us. We immediately started out for Lake Bled, with Janus giving us a lot of information on the area. Although it was a long drive, when we got there, we saw why we went! What a beautiful place. We headed for the castle on the hill, and Janus gave us a tour of the castle, and the small museum within it. He has a passion for this place and it showed. Afterward, we stopped to have a piece of “Slovanian Cream Cake” at the hotel where it was invented. WOW! It was amazing.
After pictures of the lake and the island in the middle of it, we headed for Ljubljana, to tour the “old city”. It was not like anything any of us expected, and quite unlike any other “old city” we had toured before. It is beautiful, filled with Art Deco buildings, public art, and wide boulevards. Janus gave us a very interesting walking tour of the area, stopping for lunch midway through at one of the restaurants he recommended. We hated to leave!
